Kathleen Fung principal and founder of Far Fung Places has been collecting Asian textiles for over three decades. Some of her special quests have taken her to Assam in search of Muga silk, Ghana for rare kente cloth, Djenne for iron-rich mud cloth, and the Dogon country in Mali for gorgeous hand-dyed indigo. Kathleen has traveled on foot and by pack pony to remote parts of eastern Bhutan to learn about natural dyes including lac, an insect secretion that yields crimson and a by-product, shellac.
