STAGGERINGLY BEAUTIFUL landscapes are the hallmarks of Bhutan, created when the landmasses of Asia and India collided in The Ice Age––forming the precipitous cliffs, craggy mountaintops and plunging valleys of the eastern Himalayas. One of the first niche travel companies to enter Bhutan in the early 1990s, Far Fung Places’ presents Bhutan through an experienced perspective why this might be the most unique country in the world. Join us for this special program which highlights two festivals: the festival of Jambey Lhakhang on the full moon, and the Prakhar festival honoring one of the sons of Bhutan’s most famous treasurer discovers, Pema Lingpa.

The most important events connected with the life of Lord Buddha took place on full moon days: his birth, renunciation, enlightenment, first sermon and his death all happened on the full moon days. In Bhutan especially these moon festivals are a way for Buddhists to honor the spiritual father of their country: Guru Rinpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. They are elaborate occasions which draw Bhutanese dressed in their finest kiras and ghos to watch masked dances depicting good over evil. Join us for the Jambey Lhakhang festival, and its renowned fire blessing under the light of the moon.

Additionally, the program showcases three distinct areas of the country: Western Bhutan with Paro Valley, Thimphu, Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang; Central Bhutan from the Black Mountains to Chumey, Choekhar, and Tang, a scenic region with gentle rolling hills perfect for walking, and Gantey, a stunning plateau and the winter home of the Black Necked Cranes. During Fall, morning temperatures will be in the 50s warming to the 60s in the afternoon.

Three distinguished guest lecturers chosen for your program will give informal talks on their areas of expertise, which could be textiles, geography, cuisine, religion, customs and traditions, or music. Many of these experts are residents of Bhutan, some hold important positions in the government.

Leading this program will be a senior Bhutanese guide with years of experience in guiding visitors to the Kingdom. We’ve selected three and four-star lodges, hotels and resorts with an option to upgrade in Paro, if you wish a five-star hotel to wrap up your grand adventure.
To maximize client enjoyment of the trip, our group size is no more than 4 persons, our minimum is 2 persons.

Far Fung Places plans activities that support the local communities in Bhutan. Whether it’s a local lunch at someone’s house, or a foundation that assists the artisans, one of our missions is to preserve the culture and heritage of Bhutan.
