Join Kathleen Fung, founder of Far Fung Places, and eight others for a thirteen day road and flight safari showcasing the stark and intense beauty of Namibia, formerly called Southwest Africa. Our safari encompassing a range of habitats introduces you to the geology, plants, insects, large and small mammals, and birds of Namibia.

Kathleen Fung recently returned from an extensive journey through Namibia in May 2021, and below are highlights of her incredible trip. One of her favorite countries in Africa, Kathleen has led many safaris to Namibia and the Skeleton Coast.

“After more than 14 months of sheltering in place,  it was refreshing to be in Namibia, where life was vibrant.  Without visitors disrupting their natural rhythms, animals were free to roam widely, and birth rates were way up. From cheetah and their babies, to lion teaching their young to hunt, to fighting rhino with horns locked in battle in Etosha Pan, to tracking the desert elephant  in the boulders of Damaraland, to cheetahs and the elusive leopard in Okonjima, we saw it all.

Birdlife was prolific from yellow hornbills to raptors, to thousands of migratory cormorants at Walvis Bay. Our safari drives revealed geological changes from the massive red dunes of Sossusvlei down through the great escarpment to the legendary Namibian coast, and on through the boulders of Damaraland which sheltered rock paintings, to the massive salt pan of Etosha. Sunrises and sunsets were quiet times to appreciate the incredible palette of colors displayed across the sky, mountains, and deserts.

Sean Braine, our naturalist guide,  was a walking encyclopedia with more information than you can imagine on the flora, fauna, history, geology and the ethnic groups of Namibia. His breadth of knowledge spanned all the different regions of the country, and he integrated this information in such an engaging manner. Among his many talents, he is also a professional photographer, so we were always in the right place and time for taking photographs.“

Kathleen selected deluxe and luxury accommodations except in Etosha Pan, where the group stays inside the Pan at the government camp Okaukuejo, which means you are out into the park early when the animals are most active, instead of having to drive an hour to get to the park gate and queue up to get in. Kathleen’s booked deluxe chalets close to the flood-lit watering hole, where black rhino, lion and elephant visit at night. The Mowani Lodge in Damaraland and the Bush Camp in Okonjima are gorgeous luxury camps; The Hausa Hotel in Swakopmund is a heritage property, the best in town with award-wining cuisine. In Sossusvlei, Kathleen selected the Hoodia Desert Lodge, which is family-owned and managed by Thomas & Henreza Becker, who give it such a personal touch with Thomas’s humor and Henreza’s style. In Windhoek we will be staying at the Hilton or the Galton, both modern deluxe properties.

Transportation will be in a stretch land-rover for ten persons with two pop-up hoods, air conditioning, and a PA system. For your comfort, two chartered scenic flights are included: from Windhoek to Sossusvlei, and from Swakopmund along the coast and inland to Damaraland.

The safari is limited to eight travelers, and only a few openings remain. This trip is offered at a discounted price for this departure only: May 31 to June 12, 2022. Join Kathleen for a once in a lifetime safari to Namibia, open for foreign visitors.
